Samos

600 Oldham StBaltimore, MD 21224 (410) 675-5292 - www.samosrestaurant.com

I'm starting with this restaurant for two reasons. I am from Baltimore and this is my favorite place in the city. This restaurant is in an area of Baltimore called Greektown or Highlandtown. It's on Oldham street, 2 blocks south of Eastern Avenue. Five years ago this was a well kept secret around town. No more. It's jammed most nights, they only take cash and it's BYOB, so be sure to bring beer or wine if you plan on having some drinks. But the food is outstanding. It's a pretty solid Greek menu with all the stuff you'd expect: Tatziki, Greek Salad, Gyros, Grape Leaves, Saganaki, Lamb Chops.

But there are two things that stand out about Samos. The first is the pita. The pita is fantastic. Fantastic for dipping into the amazing red pepper hummus, or the tatziki, and the Gyros are wrapped in the pita as well.

The second standout is the salad dressing. I don't know what it is, but it's amazing. It's light and flavorful. Excellent stuff. They sell it separately as well.

Samos will NOT disappoint.
